About us
We are a national Non-Medical Help Provider supporting university students in receipt of DSA (Disabled Student Allowances). We aim to reduce inequality by providing accessible education support for students facing barriers due to disabilities, mental health, or neurodivergence. Our highly qualified specialist support workers offer personalized, one-to-one assistance to higher education students.
About the role
We are expanding our team of freelance Specialist Study Skills Tutors to work with students in person at various universities across London. We seek individuals specializing in Autism Study Skills and/or SpLD Study Skills support, available to start soon or in the upcoming academic year. Candidates must meet the mandatory qualifications below and be able to meet students in person, not solely remotely.
As a freelancer, you will enjoy flexible hours and control over your schedule, meeting students regularly for an hour or two weekly to develop tailored strategies addressing their learning barriers.
Roles and Responsibilities
* Provide personalized support to university students, teaching study skills and developing strategies to mitigate the impact of disabilities on academic performance.
* Communicate professionally with our team and, when appropriate, with university Disability Advisor colleagues.
* Maintain accurate digital records compliant with company and Department for Education standards.
* Manage your own timetable and proactively engage students in their support plans.
About you
We seek candidates who:
* Have experience supporting autistic individuals and/or those with SpLDs (e.g., dyslexia, dyscalculia, dyspraxia), regardless of age group.
* Possess a good understanding of university-level academic requirements.
* Have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Meet the essential criteria for the 'Specialist one-to-one Study Skills and Strategy Support' role mandated by the Department for Education.
Essential requirements
SpLD Study Skills Tutors must:
* Be members of one of the following professional bodies:
* PATOSS (full or associate)
* British Dyslexia Association (professional membership)
* ADSHE (professional membership)
* Dyslexia Guild (Associate, Member, or Fellow)
Autism Study Skills Tutors must:
* Hold a degree and a teaching qualification.
* Have completed the 'Non-medical helpers and mentors (NHM) bundle' from the National Autistic Society.
* Complete one of the following autism training courses:
* 'Autism and SPELL in Higher Education' by NAS
* 'Working Effectively with Autistic University Students' by NADP
* 'Mentoring and Study Skills and Strategy Support for autistic and ADHD students in HE' by Optimum Student Support
* Or any CPD-accredited autism-focused course in Higher Education.
