The Brent Children’s Clinical Services Unit is excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic and experienced Band 5 Occupational Therapist, or a Band 6 OT looking to develop further, to join our dedicated Brent CYPOT team at CLCH Outer North West Division.
This is a chance for you to be part of a dynamic, forward-thinking team where children and young people are at the heart of everything we do. As a member of the Children’s Therapy Team (Paediatric SLT, OT and Physiotherapy) and the Child Development Service in Brent, you’ll be working with a supportive, inclusive group committed to delivering high-quality, family-centred care.

Main duties of the job
As part of this role, you will provide a high-quality paediatric occupational therapy service, supporting children and young people referred to the community team, including those with specific needs identified in their Educational Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
* Conduct assessments and implement interventions independently, using evidence-based approaches to identify functional needs.
* Set goals, plan treatment and deliver interventions, working closely with families and other professionals to ensure holistic support for each child’s development.
* Take responsibility for your own caseload, providing occupational therapy in both community and educational settings, ensuring each child's individual needs are met in line with their EHC plans.
* Foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation, working with colleagues to develop best practices and ensure high-quality, child-centred care across teams.

Person specification
Education/Qualification
* Current AHP with UK HCPC registration
* Degree or equivalent Diploma/Qualification in OT
* Member of professional body; RCOT
* Extensive experience in the specialist field of paediatrics incorporating a wide range of theory and evidence-based practise to include management and outcomes for children and young people with neurological conditions
* Post graduate training and education in specialist treatment approaches in Paediatrics – e.g., sensory processing, handwriting programmes etc.
* Attendance at workshops/ seminars in paediatric OT
* Experience working in an educational setting
Experience
* Experience of working with children and young people with a wide range of permanent disabilities impacting their ability to access education
* An outstanding knowledge of the Education Health Care Plan (EHCP) process, outcome setting and review criteria
* Experience in working with children and young people with neurological impairment, ASD, ADHD, sensory processing disorder and/or complex needs
* Experience working with tertiary or voluntary community-based services
* Experience working with clients from diverse cultures
* Understanding of cultural differences and their impact on OT provision
* Experience of working in health/social care in the community.
* Experience with the NHS patient information database (e.g.EMIS, SystmOne, RiO).
* Qualification in working with children
* Experience of planning and running groups
* Work in special and mainstream schools
Skills & Knowledge
* Expert knowledge of the developmental stages of children and young people
* An ability to use clinical and ethical reasoning skills to analyse and interpret assessment findings, plan and evaluate intervention programme
* Knowledge of common medical conditions and understanding of their impact on functional ability.
* An understanding legislation related to EHCP processes and safeguarding
* Ability to reflect on clinical practise and experience
* An understanding of the boundaries of the Occupational Therapist role
* Ability to communicate clearly and sensitively with parents, carers and professionals
* Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team, with a range of professionals and statutory bodies
* Clear & concise written skills with competency in IT skills for reports, advice/activity suggestions and internet use to access Occupational Therapy related information
* Candidates should have emotional integrity and demonstrate ability to cope with difficult/highly emotive situations
* Ability to work under pressure and manage competing demands
* Outstanding interpersonal skills and ability to adapt in different situations
* Outstanding presentation skills and appropriate skills for teaching professionals and peers in an in-service training setting
* Knowledge of multi-agency services available and processes for referral
