Band 4 Dental Nurse – Dental Outreach Centre
Employer: Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS FT, Dental Outreach Centre – Boots, Lower Ground Floor, Boots, 64 High Street, Birmingham, B4 7TA
Location: Birmingham City Centre
Contract: Permanent, Part‑time (15.0 hours / 0.4 WTE)
Working pattern: Fridays and one additional day (to be confirmed)
Salary: £27,485 – £30,162 per annum (pro rata)
Job Summary
We are seeking enthusiastic, hard‑working dental nurses to join our Community Dental Nursing Team. The role involves providing chair‑side assistance, performing clerical duties and supporting a wide spectrum of patients across various localities, including Birmingham Dental Hospital and Community Dental Service.
Core Responsibilities
* Provide chair‑side assistance to clinicians.
* Carry out clerical and administrative duties to ensure efficient operation of the clinic.
* Maintain high standard of patient care and confidentiality within all dental clinics.
* Prepare and monitor patients for and during dental treatment, giving pre‑ and post‑operative instructions.
* Maintain dental equipment and arrange repairs.
* Ensure emergency drugs and equipment are available and up to date.
* Assist with general anaesthesia and exodontia sessions, providing postoperative instructions.
* Deliver oral health education as instructed by the clinician.
* Support the Senior Dental Nurse in running the dental service.
* Assist clinicians including student disciplines.
* Support and supervise apprentice nurses and undergraduate groups.
Person Specification – Essential
* Dental Nursing qualification.
* Professional registration with the General Dental Council.
* Relevant experience working as part of a dental team (e.g., general practice, hospital, primary dental services).
* Ability to work under pressure and independently.
* Organisational skills, manual dexterity, good general numeracy.
* Knowledge of cross‑infection procedures, dental procedures and computer skills.
* Professional communication and confidentiality.
Person Specification – Desirable
* Post‑qualification in Dental Radiography or other dental nursing post qualifications.
* Experience with children, elderly, medically compromised patients or those with learning disabilities.
