What you'll do
As a Wastewater Treatment Planning Engineer, your duties include:
1. Strategic Planning & Investment: Contribute to shaping a five-year plan that aligns with long-term goals and regulatory requirements.
2. Cost-Benefit Focus: Ensure investments are financially sound and technically justified.
3. Regulatory & Compliance Support: Assist in preparing regulatory documentation and liaising with auditors.
4. Technical Oversight & Programme Management: Monitor capital delivery programmes, participate in design reviews, and ensure project designs meet standards and affordability criteria.
5. Knowledge of wastewater or sludge treatment processes: Design of treatment systems, hydraulic analysis, and understanding of computer hydraulic modelling.
6. Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with internal teams and engage with external stakeholders including residents and councils.
7. Planning & Documentation: Draft briefs, prepare business plans, drainage and wastewater management plans (DWMP), and submissions to regulators like Ofwat, DEFRA.
Essential skills and qualifications include analytical thinking, strong communication skills, cross-functional collaboration, decision-making, project management, customer engagement, relevant degree (not strictly engineering), proficiency in office software, initiative and independence, relationship building, and public-speaking confidence.
