About the Role We are looking for a flexible, professional, and well p‑resented Casual Civic Driver/Attendant to support the Civic Office at official engagements across the district. In this unique and prestigious role, you will chauffeur, attend, and escort members of the Civic Team including the Lord Mayor and Sheriff to civic events, ceremonial occasions, council meetings and other formal engagements. You will also assist with ceremonial duties, including acting as Mace or Sword Bearer, and supporting the care and presentation of civic robes and regalia. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a highly professional, public facing environment and who takes pride in representing‑ the council. Key Responsibilities Safely drive members of the Civic Team to and from official functions, ensuring punctuality and professionalism at all times. Plan routes, confirm arrangements with the Lord Mayor/Sheriff, and liaise with Civic Officers regarding event details. Ensure civic protocol is followed at all meetings, engagements and ceremonial events. Maintain the civic vehicle in a clean, presentable condition and report any maintenance issues promptly. Assist with robes, regalia, gloves and other ceremonial items, ensuring they are properly maintained and stored. Bear the mace or sword during civic ceremonies and ensure safe handling in line with health and safety guidance. Support civic functions hosted by the Lord Mayor and/or Sheriff, including occasional evening, weekend and bank holiday duties. About You We are looking for someone who is: Calm under pressure, reliable and an excellent timekeeper. Well organised‑, with good attention to detail. Presentable, professional, and confident engaging with the public at formal events. Able to work well as part of a small but important team. Comfortable learning and upholding civic protocol, traditions and procedures. You will also need: A full clean driving licence. Experience supporting events and working in customer facing‑ or organisational roles. Good communication skills and the ability to maintain confidentiality. Working Pattern Hours are irregular and will depend on the civic engagement schedule.
