The Education Welfare Service is looking to recruit an Education Welfare Officer to meet the demands within the Children Not in School Strand of this busy team. We are looking for a candidate who has the ability and personality to develop positive and supportive relationships with schools, pupils and their families and be confident in representing the service.
Relevant qualifications and previous employment experience with families and children in a multi-agency setting and the ability to manage sensitive issues is essential, as is a general understanding of education welfare service roles and responsibilities as set out within the job outline.
This strand of the service undertakes the council's statutory duty to ensure all pupils that are Electively Home Educated (EHE) have access to a suitable and efficient education either at school or otherwise. Undertaking annual reviews (not assessments) of this education. These roles also include using tools such as School Attendance Orders if the education is deemed as not being suitable. This role also involves locating those pupils that are deemed as being Children Missing in Education (CME), upon locating them ensuring that education is being accessed. In addition to this the post holder will also support permanently excluded pupils and their families during the reintegration back into an education.
