Course Summary
On our Creative Media Level 2 course you'll engage in the production of diverse media formats, including, film, television and graphics working on themed projects or developing your own neat ideas! It is a great introduction into the world of media communication!
Course Details
The course operates from a suite of Media studios using industry standard equipment including Adobe Creative suite in our three computer suites and professional fully equipped media studios with full TV production facilities.
Whilst studying on this course you will learn a wide range of practical skills through studying and practicing a wide and diverse subject areas - and through this you will become competent in many aspects of Media product design and delivery.
These include:
* Film Creation
* Media camerawork
* TV studio skills and location based media production
* Digital editing and post production work-flow
* Photography for Media
* Media graphic design
* Sound design for Film
* Journalism, Copy and Script writing
* Print, Desk Top Publishing and Graphic Design
* Design for Radio and Podcast
As a part of this course you will also study media theory and practice in the area of product concept design and pre-production where you will learn to create media scripts, storyboards, production paperwork and planning material.
The course is run in three terms, term one being based on the foundation of core skills working on a campaign based set of practical media projects, term two focusing on the developing of specialist skills and media practices through an Advertorial multi-solution set of projects and finally term three where students design and write their own final major project based on a theme. Term three is the assessment project for the course grade.
The course works with a professional TV and digital media provider, Springboard, who are based in the media area within the college. Students who undertake this course automatically become a member of Springboard and will be able to take part in supporting exciting client-based and real-world broadcast projects. This gives all students access to real-world client based work experience. This activity as an essential element for effective skills development and portfolio building for progression both to Level 3 and ultimately onto a suitable Higher Education degree and ultimately into an exciting career in the Media sector.

* L3 Creative Media (linked).
* L3 Graphic Design
* L3 Art & Design
* L3 Photography
Other Level three courses can also be applied to successfully through the Level 2 Media course.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
The work on the course is project/assignment based, and assessment is continuous throughout the course. Some units will be subject to external assessment.
The units in the first two terms are assessed at Pass grade only. The final unit is awarded a grade of Pass, Merit or Distinction.
Entry requirements
You will need:
* 4 or more GCSEs at grade 3 or higher, including English, maths and a relevant creative-based subject
Or
* A relevant Level 1 qualification at Merit or Distinction standard studied at CWA or another further education provider
* English and maths GCSEs at grade 3 or higher
You will be invited to an informal interview to help ensure the course is right for you. You will need to bring evidence of your creative work and interest in the subject area for the course team to look at. This is to showcase your creativity, ideas or technical skills and could consist of a video, YouTube channel, editing work, film review or a podcast.
