Job Summary
The Cleaner is a vital member of the Clarendon Medical Centre team, responsible for ensuring that the highest standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and infection control are maintained across the practice. This role directly supports the delivery of safe, effective patient care by providing a clean and welcoming environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
Working in accordance with the National Standards of Healthcare Cleanliness 2021, the post holder will ensure that cleaning duties are carried out effectively, using appropriate equipment, products, and methods. Duties will include daily and periodic cleaning tasks, replenishment of consumables, safe disposal of waste, and maintaining accurate cleaning records for audit purposes.
The role requires a high level of attention to detail, an ability to follow schedules and policies, and the flexibility to respond to the needs of the practice. The Cleaner must also demonstrate a proactive approach to infection prevention, workplace safety, and environmental sustainability, while working both independently and as part of a supportive team.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
* Cleaning Standards
* Maintain all areas of the practice to the standards set out in the National Standards of Healthcare Cleanliness 2021.
* Follow the agreed cleaning schedules and use the correct cleaning methods for each area.
* Ensure all cleaning is carried out safely and efficiently, following manufacturers' guidance for equipment and cleaning products.
* Auditing and Records
* Keep detailed and accurate cleaning records for audit and compliance purposes.
* Take part in cleanliness audits and contribute to action plans for improvement.
* Consumables and Waste
* Monitor and replenish consumables such as soap, paper towels, and toilet rolls.
* Remove and dispose of waste in line with the Waste Management Policy, considering environmental and sustainability requirements.
* Health and Safety
* Always follow the colour-coding system for cleaning materials and equipment.
* Store cleaning materials safely, in compliance with COSHH, HASAW, and other relevant legislation.
* Undertake legionella flushing of systems where required.
* Report any defective equipment, hazards, or maintenance issues promptly to the Operational Manager.
* Team Support
* Support new and existing staff members when required.
* Participate in general audits and contribute to maintaining high-quality service across the practice.
Requirements (Person Specification)Qualifications
Essential
* Good standard of written and spoken English.
* Willingness to undertake mandatory training (COSHH, infection control, manual handling).
Desirable
* City & Guilds Level 2 in Cleaning Principles, or equivalent qualification.
* Evidence of health and safety or infection prevention training.
Experience
Essential
* Ability to demonstrate safe, methodical cleaning practices.
* Experience working independently and managing workload.
Desirable
* Previous cleaning experience in healthcare, education, or other regulated environments.
* Experience maintaining cleaning records and following formal cleaning schedules.
* Awareness of infection prevention and control practices.
