Location: Cumbria (Whitehaven – minimum 3 days on site per week)
Contract: Inside IR35

One of our key clients is seeking an experienced Strategic Projects Commercial Manager to join its Strategic Projects team within decommission projects based at Sellafield. This is a high‑profile role supporting multiple workstreams across a complex, multi‑project nuclear environment.
The Role
As Strategic Projects Commercial Manager, you will work closely with the Head of Strategic Projects, Workstream Leads and Project Controls, providing commercial leadership across a portfolio of strategic projects. You will be responsible for managing all commercial matters, supporting both client contracts and the supply chain, and ensuring strong commercial governance throughout delivery.
You will play a key role in risk management, subcontract strategy, commercial reporting and stakeholder engagement, helping ensure projects are delivered to time, cost and quality targets in a highly regulated environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead all commercial matters across Strategic Projects
* Provide commercial advice and reporting to the Strategic Projects Core Team
* Manage NEC3/NEC4 contracts, including Option A (Lump Sum) and Option C (Target Cost)
* Identify, manage and mitigate commercial risks and opportunities during project delivery
* Support subcontract procurement and supply chain strategy alongside procurement leads
* Maintain and manage CEMAR for both client and supply chain contracts
* Develop strong relationships with key client and supply chain stakeholders
* Ensure strategic projects meet wider teams commercial and reporting requirements
* Apply a proactive, pace‑driven approach to decision making and commercial risk management
About You
You will be a commercially astute professional with significant experience in large, multi‑project frameworks, ideally within nuclear, infrastructure or highly regulated environments.
Essential experience and skills:
* Proven experience as a Commercial Manager or Senior Quantity Surveyor
* Minimum 10 years’ commercial or quantity surveying experience (15 preferred)
* Strong working knowledge of NEC3/NEC4 contracts
* Experience working on large frameworks (circa £45m–£50m or similar)
* Excellent stakeholder management, leadership and communication skills
* High level of commercial awareness and attention to detail
* Previous experience working at Sellafield or similar nuclear sites
Desirable:
* Degree in Quantity Surveying or equivalent commercial discipline
* NEC3/NEC4 training certification
* Experience using CEMAR
Location & Working Pattern
* Based in Cumbria, Whitehaven
* Travel within the local area will also be required occasionally
Additional Requirements
* Must be eligible for site access and security clearance
* Immediate availability preferred of candidates who currently hold security clearance / P4 pass (flexibility to wait for the right candidate)
