Earth & Environment - Ground & Water (2026 Graduate Programme) Our environmental Ground & Water specialists support our clients in successful assessment and investigation of Brownfield land, supporting development proposals and commercial decisions. The team are involved in the Demolition and Decommissioning of entire non-operational power stations to managing small, specialised redundant plants within active process areas.

A little bit more about your role and the team
Our Ground and Water teams have worked on a range of assignments and, as a graduate in Contaminated Land or Demolition and Decommissioning, you will help deliver projects such as:
Projects
* Ground investigations for infrastructure projects such as HS2 and Heathrow
* The Great Grid upgrade
* Remediation of a former gasworks site or petrochemical plant
* UK prototype fusion energy facility
* Various projects supporting the nuclear industry
* A wide range of infrastructure and water schemes and investigations around emerging contaminants
* Thermal Power station – Decommissioning and Demolition
* Refinery - High Hazard plant demolition
* Nuclear Power station Decommissioning and Demolition
Our Ground & Water Teams
Contaminated Land
Working as a Graduate in this team means supporting the Ground & Water (geo-environmental/contaminated land/hydrogeology) team. The successful candidate will play a key role in day-to-day delivery of projects, working closely with project managers and project directors. This could include significant periods on site, with activities typically including investigating, assessing and remediating contaminated sites, transitioning with experience toward reporting, client liaison and project management.
Day-to-day activities could include:
* Phase 1 Desk study researching and reporting
* Phase 2 Site investigation design, supervision, soil sampling, soil logging, subcontractor management, health and safety risk assessment and reporting
* Adherence to best technical, engineering and health and safety practice (with training)
* Communicating with clients, subcontractors and assisting the project team
* Operational assistance towards delivery of project works, including other disciplines
* Environmental site monitoring
* Data collection and data management
* Factual checking of ground investigation reports and progression to reporting
Demolition and Decommissioning This role would predominantly be site based with travel across the UK and potentially internationally. The objective is to support the Decommissioning and Demolition (D&D) team on decommissioning, demolition and remediation projects requiring significant site work, under supervision with progression toward eventual management of works. The position suits a graduate with a background in Demolition Management, Construction Management, Health, Safety and Environment or an Engineering-based course.
Day-to-day activities could include:
* Attendance at site briefings, meetings and workshops
* Observation and reporting of contractor works
* Assisting clients with planning and programming of works and addressing challenges
* Assisting in data gathering and surveying of new projects
* Communicating with clients, contractors and project team
* Operational assistance towards delivery of projects

What Will You Demonstrate
You’ll have graduated with at least a 2:2 in a master’s or bachelor’s degree in a relevant subject for the role. Must complete the application form in full, including all questions, and pass an online skill enabler assessment. You will start in April or September 2026 and hold a UK driving licence. You will be able to stay calm under pressure, learn quickly, pay attention to detail, adapt to change, work to budgets and timescales, build relationships, and be enthusiastic about creativity and solving problems. You should be able to communicate effectively and share new ideas. Willingness and ability to travel in the UK, including overnight stays.
