The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Klura Ltd as our first Financial Controller; this is a newly formed role within the business. Having just closed its Series A, Klura is now scaling up and seeking an excellent FC who is looking for their next challenge—a place where they can use their skills and knowledge to have a significant impact on a company with global ambitions.
It's a great time to join Klura following several recent successes, including winning the Bronze award at the Future of Food 2025 competition. If you have a background in helping startups scale and a passion for "getting it right," we'd love to hear from you.
About the Company
At Klura, we are passionate about innovating systems against bioburdens, with a particular focus on the food system. We extend the shelf life of food by developing advanced materials integrated into the packaging.
The Role
Reporting directly to the CFO, you will be the architect of our financial integrity. You will provide the leadership and expertise needed to ensure our finance function supports rapid, sustainable growth.
Key Responsibilities:
* Establish Robust Reporting:
Build and manage timely monthly management accounts, supported by clear analysis and fully reconciled balance sheets to give leadership the visibility needed for informed decisions.
* Cash Flow & Liquidity:
Closely monitor cash flow and implement sophisticated forecasting processes to support our expansion and manage working capital effectively.
* Governance & Controls:
Implement internal controls, reconciliation processes, and approval workflows to protect data integrity as transaction volumes increase.
* System Transformation:
Lead the implementation of scalable accounting systems and automation to streamline workflows and improve efficiency.
* Strategic Planning:
Support the leadership team in preparing budgets, monitoring financial performance, and analysing trends to guide our long-term strategy.
* Inventory & COGS:
As a physical product business, you will take ownership of our complex supply chain accounting—meticulously tracking hardware assets, chemical formula inventory, and landed costs to ensure absolute margin accuracy.
* Audit & Compliance:
Lead Klura through its first formal audit. You'll own our UK IFRS compliance, navigate international VAT and import/export requirements, and ensure all statutory filings are precise and on time.
* Incentives & Grant Reporting:
Coordinate technical and financial data for R&D tax claims and manage the reporting cycles for government innovation grants, ensuring full compliance and optimised recovery.
* Investor Readiness:
Ensure our financial information is accurate, well-structured, and ready for future funding rounds, audits, or due diligence.
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for a Scale-Up Specialist—someone who doesn't just manage a function but builds one.
* Qualifications:
You are an ACA, ACCA, or CIMA-qualified professional with 5+ years of experience, including at least 1–2 years in a Controller or Senior Finance Manager role within a venture-backed startup.
* Technical Excellence:
You possess deep expertise in financial controls, UK GAAP, and tax compliance. A Big 4 or Mid-tier audit background is not essential but advantageous.
* Sector Expertise:
Experience in Hardware, Manufacturing, or Ag-Tech is a significant plus. You must intuitively understand the "physics" of finance—accounting for physical assets, inventory, depreciation, and complex logistics.
* Systems Architect:
You are naturally systems-minded, with a passion for finding and implementing the right tools to automate manual workflows.
* Extreme Ownership
& Agency:
You don't wait for a to-do list. You have the autonomy to identify gaps and the drive to close them. You take pride in being highly organised and detail-oriented.
* Strategic Communicator:
You can distil complex accounting issues into clear "so-what" summaries for the CFO and leadership team.
Why Klura?
This role offers a unique seat at the table, featuring direct mentorship from a seasoned CFO to sharpen your strategic leadership, alongside a competitive equity package that ensures you share in our global success. We are offering the rare chance to scale a mission-driven business where your financial architecture directly fuels our innovation and sustainability impact.
