The Role
This is a hands-on opportunity for a detail-driven payroll professional to lead our multi-site payroll operations. You'll manage employee data and liaise with our payroll provider, support nursery managers, and work closely with finance to ensure accuracy, compliance, and timely payments. There are currently five payrolls across 12 sites (and more on the horizon).
Key Responsibilities
* Prepare monthly payrolls across multiple sites, including starters, leavers, and changes
* Ensure compliance with HMRC regulations (RTI, PAYE, NI, SSP, SMP, SPP)
* Liaise with pension provider regarding contributions and auto-enrolment
* Maintain systems and employee records
* Collaborate with HR and Finance for accurate data flow and reporting
* Support year-end processes (P60s, P11Ds, PSA)
* Respond to employee queries regarding pay, tax, and benefits
* Stay current with payroll legislation and best practices
* Assist with audits and ensure data confidentiality
* Onboard new payrolls through acquisition.
* Update the Payroll playbook to ensure all information up to date
* Other administration tasks to support HR/Finance
Knowledge and Experience
Essential:
* Experience managing data for multiple payrolls
* Strong understanding of UK payroll legislation and systems
Desirable:
Experience of setting up new payrolls
Experience of acquiring new acquisitions
Skills and Attributes
* High attention to detail and numerical accuracy
* Strong IT skills, especially Excel and payroll systems
* Analytical thinking and problem-solving ability
* Clear communication and time management
* Discretion with sensitive data
Qualifications
* CIPP qualification (Foundation or Practitioner level) – desirable
* AAT or similar finance/accounting qualification
