About BCI

British Creative Institute (BCI) is a specialist post-16 provision supporting learners aged 16–25 with SEND. We provide inclusive learning through a blend of on-site learning and remote/alternative models, tailored to learner needs, wellbeing, and engagement.

The Role (Flexible – shaped around your strengths)

We are recruiting two Educational Support Workers to join BCI’s Remote Learning & Engagement Team. Your core purpose is to re-engage learners who are not attending, deliver structured learning sessions at home, and support families to sustain participation in education.

This role is ideal for someone with experience in outreach, youth work, SEND support, attendance/engagement, or alternative provision.

Delivery options (any/all can be part of the role)

* Home-based learning support (1:1) following BCI plans/resources
* Attendance and engagement chasing (calls, texts, visits, agreed check-ins)
* Parent/carer encouragement and coaching to support routines and learning
* Flexible learning models: remote learning set-up, supported online sessions, blended timetables
* Transition support back into college (graded reintegration plans)

Key Responsibilities (tailored to your remit)

* Visit learners at home (planned and risk-assessed) to deliver education support sessions and promote engagement.
* Encourage and motivate learners who are refusing or struggling to attend college, using calm, trauma-informed approaches.
* Work positively with parents/carers to build consistency, routines, and confidence in learning.
* Track contact, sessions delivered, progress notes, and barriers to learning; feedback to the Remote Learning Lead/SENCo.
* Liaise with tutors and pastoral staff so home learning aligns with EHCP outcomes and agreed targets.
* Support safe reintegration: accompanying learners to college where appropriate, helping them settle, and reducing anxiety.
* Follow safeguarding procedures, report concerns promptly, and maintain clear professional boundaries. KCSIE makes it clear that all staff have safeguarding responsibilities and must understand their role. (GOV.UK)
* Follow lone working and home-visit safety processes (risk assessment, check-in/out, professional conduct, confidentiality).

Applicant Requirements (Flexible)

We welcome applications from candidates with a wide range of backgrounds. You do not need to “tick every box” to apply.

You could be:

* An Educational Support Worker / LSA / SEN support professional
* A youth worker, outreach worker, family support worker, or attendance officer
* A tutor/mentor experienced with disengaged learners
* A wellbeing/pastoral support professional with SEND experience

What matters most

* Confidence building relationships with SEND learners who may be anxious, withdrawn, dysregulated, or disengaged.
* Ability to deliver structured learning support (using plans/resources) and keep sessions calm, practical, and achievable.
* Strong communication with families and professionals.
* Reliability, good recording habits, and professional curiosity to problem-solve barriers.

Desirable (not essential)

* Experience of home tuition/home visits, alternative provision, school refusal/EBSA, or SEMH needs
* Understanding of EHCP outcomes and person-centred support
* Functional Skills support (English/Maths) at Entry Level to Level 2
* Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (helpful due to travel across the West Midlands)

Safeguarding & Compliance

BCI is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

The successful applicant will be required to complete safer recruitment checks, including:

* Enhanced DBS (and Children’s Barred List check where the role is eligible/required). (GOV.UK)
* Identity and right-to-work checks, plus relevant qualification checks where applicable.
* References (typically two professional; we may request an additional character reference depending on the role).
* Staff awareness and compliance with Keeping Children Safe in Education (in force from 1 September 2025). (GOV.UK)
* Awareness of the Prevent duty as part of safeguarding responsibilities in education settings. (GOV.UK)
* Commitment to safer recruitment practice and working within clear safeguarding boundaries. (NSPCC Learning)
