Environmental Specialist
Jackson Hogg has partnered with a specialist manufacturing business in the Newton Aycliffe area to recruit an Environmental Specialist, reporting directly to the HSE Manager.
The role involves ensuring that the site, its process plant, employees, and contractors operate in compliance with current legislation, guidance, and procedures. The primary focus is to collaborate with environmental agencies and consultants to ensure the plant and equipment meet licensing requirements.
Responsibilities include:
1. Applying ISO14001 Environmental Standards practically and effectively.
2. Working with monitoring and analytical companies to ensure corrective actions, such as Legionella control, are implemented based on test results.
3. Maintaining environmental consents in accordance with the IPPC Permit, including discharges to atmosphere, ground, drainage, and rivers.
4. Collaborating with waste and chemical analysis providers to manage corrective actions based on test outcomes.
5. Ensuring laboratory and testing facilities operate within ISO accreditation standards (ISO 14001, ISO 9001).
6. Developing a centralized waste monitoring program with KPIs and dashboards.
7. Managing waste transfer documentation and liaising with external bodies for safe waste disposal.
8. Providing site teams with systems and information to manage chemical hazards, complying with CHIP 2002 and COSHH 2002 regulations.
9. Implementing health monitoring systems to ensure compliance with REACH regulations.
10. Leading the introduction and use of new chemicals and raw materials on-site.
11. Developing strategies to foster a positive HSE culture, including behavioral safety initiatives.
12. Coordinating with occupational health providers for onsite health screening recommendations.
Requirements:
* Experience in high-volume manufacturing environments.
* Experience working on a COMAH site.
* Involvement with emergency response teams.
* Knowledge of environmental monitoring and waste management principles.
* Strong PC skills for documentation and system implementation.
* Flexibility to work additional hours as needed.
* Decisive, accurate, creative, and forward-thinking.
* Ability to motivate, persuade, and negotiate.
Education and Qualifications:
* Degree in Environmental or Health & Safety related discipline.
* Accredited lead auditor for ISO 14001/45001.
