Senior Construction Estimator

Salary: £60,000 – £75,000 + Car Allowance (DOE)
Working Pattern: Hybrid / Flexible (typically 1–2 days in the office)
About SWG Construction
SWG Construction is an established principal contractor delivering residential, commercial, industrial, and public-sector projects across the Midlands and Wales.
We win work through careful pre-construction planning, accurate first-principles pricing, and strong supply chain relationships, rather than simply competing on the lowest price.
With a strong pipeline of secured and upcoming projects, we are looking to strengthen our pre-construction team with an experienced estimator who can play a key role in shaping our tenders.
The Role
This is an opportunity for either:
* an experienced Senior Estimator looking for a stable and flexible environment, or
* a capable Estimator ready to step up into a more senior role.
You will work closely with our directors, commercial team and project delivery teams, taking responsibility for preparing competitive tenders from first principles through to tender submission and handover.
Your input will directly influence bid strategy, risk identification and value engineering opportunities.
Typical project values range from £500K to £8M
Key Responsibilities
* Prepare accurate and competitive tenders for new build and refurbishment projects
* Price work from first principles, understanding construction methodology and sequencing
* Review drawings, specifications and employer’s requirements to identify risks and opportunities
* Manage subcontractor and supplier enquiries to ensure full scope coverage
* Evaluate subcontract returns for commercial and technical compliance
* Participate in tender adjudication meetings with senior management
* Provide a clear and structured handover to the delivery team when projects are secured
What We’re Looking For
We value strong construction knowledge and practical estimating ability.
Experience
* Ideally, 5+ years estimating experience with a UK principal contractor
* Experience pricing Design & Build and traditional contracts
Technical Skills
* Strong understanding of construction methodology and cost planning
* Confident pricing from first principles
* Strong Excel skills essential
* Experience with Causeway estimating software is advantageous
Additional Advantages

* Strong communication skills when working with consultants, clients and internal teams
