The Extra Care Scheme Manager is responsible for the on-site care and support services delivered within the scheme 24 hours per day. The role involves effectively leading, managing, and supporting a team of senior care workers and support staff to provide reliable, responsive, and person-centered care to residents. The manager promotes residents' independence, security, and wellbeing, working in partnership with the on-site Housing Provider team, the Local Authority, and third-sector organizations involved in supporting residents. The role includes the day-to-day management of the scheme with continuous development and improvement of on-site services to meet residents' needs, ensuring compliance with quality standards, regulatory, company, and contractual requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Manage the overall setting.
2. Ensure robust, person-centered care plans are in place to achieve desired outcomes.
3. Maintain regular liaison with social workers, social services, commissioners, health authorities, District Nurses, voluntary organizations, and other professionals involved in service integration.
4. Manage the scheme's budget, including profit and loss responsibilities.
5. Lead investigations into complaints, safeguarding concerns, or incidents, ensuring responses adhere to service level agreements (SLA).
6. Support and develop staff through coaching, inductions, training, reviews, and mentoring.
7. Produce, monitor, review, and report KPIs in line with contractual requirements.
8. Participate in allocation/panel meetings with the Housing Manager, making recommendations and offers to potential residents to maintain a balanced community.
9. Take responsibility for the Business Continuity Plan, working with the Housing Provider on fire evacuation and emergency planning.
10. Collaborate with the Housing Provider to ensure provision of activities that encourage resident participation.
11. Liaise with health services regarding medication administration, recording, and supervision according to policies and procedures.
12. Provide direct care and support to residents in emergencies when appropriate.
13. Work closely with stakeholders, including professionals, care workers, families, and advocates, involved in residents' care and support.
14. Attend supervision, staff, and team meetings, including off-site training when required.
Qualifications and Experience:
1. Understanding the needs of older people and the purpose of Extra Care Housing.
2. Knowledge of best practices and innovation in an Extra Care Scheme setting.
3. Knowledge of medication supervision.
4. Proven leadership in care and support services.
5. Ability to produce reports, meet deadlines, and adhere to contractual and regulatory obligations.
6. Experience managing diverse staff working shift patterns, maintaining safe staffing levels.
7. Experience planning staff rotas using rostering systems.
8. Previous experience managing on-site care and support within an Extra Care setting.
