Job overview
Applications are invited for the post of Senior Clinical Education Fellow in Cardiology. This is a 12-month full-time, fixed term appointment of consisting of 16 hours per week of clinical education, and 24 hours per week in the Cardiology department. The expected start date is August (but start date can be negotiated by either side). The post is designed to support both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. The post holder will teach medical students in the hospital setting and will have the opportunity to deliver teaching and mentorship to doctors in training. As a result, the post holder will be involved in education in a broad range of settings and topics from pre-clinical medical student bedside teaching and simulation training through to clinical school teaching, supervision and assessment.
The Department of Cardiology provides a secondary care service to a population of about, in and around Milton Keynes which is increasing. The department has both established and developing links with a number of hospitals including Oxford University Hospitals.

Main duties of the job
The exact job plan will be agreed with the Cardiology Clinical Lead and Medical Education Manager. It will include:
Care of cardiology inpatient and outpatients
Inpatient medicine support including referrals and out of hours cover
Provide any other support for the Cardiology department as required
Participate in echo training in the Cardiology department
Participate in academic activities in the cardiology department including teaching, training and research
Assisting with undergraduate and postgraduate simulation training
Assisting with planning other student activities such as elective placements, assistantships, revision sessions before finals and any other undergraduate/postgraduate education programmes
The teaching encompasses small group workshops, lectures, simulation-based education, and mentoring, amongst others. All teaching materials are provided however development of resources is expected and encouraged
Working with the wider MDT within Medical Education to effectively plan for student placements
Work on research and quality improvement projects of relevance to medical education. It is expected that this work should lead to presentations at appropriate professional meetings and publication in relevant journals.

The job plan is flexible and the timetable and training will vary according to the needs of the department and in conjunction with the timetable of the other middle grades. Currently there is no general medical on call. This may change in the future. We have weekend working and the post holder will be involved in this.
Person specification
* MB BS
* MRCP or equivalent
* Higher medical degree (MD/PhD)
* Teaching Qualification (Such as PG Cert, PG Dip or Masters)
Professional training
* Completed Internal Medicine basic training (IMT) or equivalent
* Experience of teaching medical students, junior doctors and other healthcare professionals
* Experience in all aspects of general Cardiology
* Experience of developing teaching or training programmes
* Experience of working in an acute NHS Trust
* Significant number of postgrad experience
Level of responsibility
* Evidence of ability to make supported decisions and to manage complex clinical problems with support.

Teaching and training skills
