This role involves automating statistical processes, building tools to support Scotland’s official statistics, and leading a programme of work to embed Reproducible Analytical Pipelines (RAPs) across the National Records of Scotland (NRS). The position is a 12‑month, Fair and Open, fixed term contract (with the possibility of extension).
Responsibilities
* Lead a programme of work to identify opportunities to enhance analytical processes by developing Reproducible Analytical Pipelines (RAPs), thereby improving efficiency and optimising resource use.
* Design and develop Reproducible Analytical Pipelines using R and Git.
* Automate the production of official statistics and analytical reports in line with the Government Statistical Service (GSS) RAP principles.
* Collaborate with statistical teams and stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into robust, automated workflows.
* Ensure code quality, version control, and documentation standards are upheld.
* Lead the development of internal RAP standards, guidance, and training materials.
* Provide coaching and support to statisticians to develop RAPs.
* Line management of two B2 Statistical Support Analysts.
Qualifications
* Candidates need to provide evidence of one of the following:
o A minimum of a 2:2 undergraduate degree or a master’s degree or PhD, demonstrating formal training in statistics or data, OR
o Sufficient experience in a statistics or data related field, with a minimum 2:2 undergraduate degree or a master’s degree or PhD.
