Job Description:
The Department of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering (MAE) within the Batten College of Engineering and Technology (BCET) at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in mechanical and aerospace engineering, starting Fall 2026. This is an annual 10-month appointment. We seek candidates with expertise in high-speed flow, aerothermodynamics modeling, gas-surface thermochemical interactions, propulsion, and plasma physics related to hypersonic flight. We also welcome applicants with relevant aerospace engineering backgrounds that will complement and enhance our department’s existing strengths. Ideal candidates will be capable of teaching in these specialized areas and more, while actively contributing to our research and service missions. They should establish and maintain an externally funded research program, provide quality instruction at both undergraduate and graduate levels, mentor students in research, and participate in departmental, college, university, and professional activities.
