Senior Technical Project Manager

Location: London, UK

About the Role

Sony Interactive Entertainment’s R&D teams are at the heart of exploring what’s next in games and play. We’re looking for a Senior Technical Project Manager to help drive bold, high‑impact innovation initiatives such as intelligent agents, expressive virtual characters, deep scene understanding, and cloud‑connected gameplay technologies.

In this role, you will manage both projects and programs—overseeing multiple interrelated projects that advance our long‑term technology goals. You will collaborate closely with internal development teams, research groups, and external partners to ensure alignment with strategic objectives, efficient execution, and the successful delivery of outcomes that influence the future of PlayStation experiences.

You’ll coordinate across technical, creative, and operational disciplines to plan milestones, manage risks, and maintain clear communication throughout the lifecycle of each initiative. This role also involves supporting R&D experimentation efforts—helping teams turn early concepts into tangible outcomes that inform future technologies and products.

This is a hands‑on, execution‑focused leadership role ideal for someone who thrives in a dynamic, exploratory environment where innovation, collaboration, and strategic thinking come together.

Key Responsibilities

* Plan and deliver complex programs and projects, defining objectives, scope, timelines, and success metrics that align with organizational strategy.
* Coordinate interdependent projects within programs, ensuring alignment, transparency, and efficient collaboration across teams.
* Develop and maintain project and program plans, tracking progress against milestones and adapting to evolving priorities.
* Identify and manage risks and issues, developing mitigation strategies and facilitating timely resolution or escalation where needed.
* Support governance processes, reporting progress, performance, and key decisions to senior stakeholders and program owners.
* Manage resources and dependencies across projects to optimise delivery and reduce bottlenecks.
* Facilitate communication and alignment among diverse technical, creative, and operational stakeholders.
* Establish and refine processes for program execution and continuous improvement.
* Mentor and support other TPMs, fostering collaboration and shared standards of excellence.
* Contribute to the R&D Project Management community of practice, sharing learnings, methods, and innovations.

About You

Required

* 8+ years’ experience in technical project and/or program management, ideally in games, research, or emerging technologies.
* Proven ability to manage complex, multi‑organization, multi‑site programs with multiple dependencies and stakeholders.
* Strong understanding of project and program management methodologies, including governance, planning, and benefit realization.
* Exceptional communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and negotiate across disciplines and levels.
* Adept at working both strategically and tactically, balancing long‑term vision with hands‑on execution.
* Experience with Agile practices (e.g., Scrum) and commonly used PM tools (e.g., Atlassian suite).
* Fluent in English, with strong presentation and documentation skills.
* Passionate about applying project management discipline to deliver innovation and measurable impact.
* Willingness to travel internationally and work flexibly across global teams.
* Experience leading research or innovation‑focused programs.
* Understanding of game development technologies, AI, or platform engineering.
* Experience managing third‑party partnerships or vendors.
* Proven ability to motivate and guide teams through ambiguity and complex problem‑solving.
* Experience defining and tracking program benefits and success metrics.

Why Join Us?

* Play a key role in shaping the future of interactive entertainment by driving innovative technical projects from concept to delivery.
* Collaborate with world‑class engineers, researchers, and designers in a team that values innovation, creativity, and impact.
* Be part of an environment that encourages curiosity, rapid exploration, and play without limits.
