Job Description:
Client/child:
Oliver, 19, is an active, happy and cheerful young man with a great sense of humour. He enjoys listening to music, watching Peppa Pig and Paw Patrol, trips out on public transport, and visiting places with Windmills. Oliver sustained a brain injury following a misdiagnosis of meningitis after birth. As a result, he has a complex neurodevelopmental disorder presenting as a Learning Disability, Hydrocephalus with a VP shunt, epilepsy (controlled via medication), ADHD, right side Hemiplegia, reduced mobility, and expressive communication difficulties. Oliver struggles with self-regulation and can sometimes display challenging behaviors. He lives with his father; his mother and grandparents visit regularly, and he is very much a family-oriented person. We are gradually building Oliver’s care team to provide 2:1 support.
Overview of role:
Oliver’s Support Worker / PA will assist with daily activities, planning and attending activities/outings at home and in the community. Oliver prefers to be organized and needs support with planning, cooking meals, and preparing healthy snacks and drinks. Due to his VP shunt, close monitoring is essential to prevent complications (more details available at the interview). You will promote Oliver’s independence and support his self-help skills and regulation. Some behaviors may challenge, so experience in managing such behaviors is required. Light household duties related to Oliver are included.
Who this job would suit:
A confident, energetic, and patient Support Worker / PA with a good sense of humor, positive attitude, and a supportive, advocate mindset. A driver with their own car is essential, and previous experience supporting young adults with epilepsy and challenging behaviors is required.
What’s great about this job:
This is a permanent part-time role with ongoing training and supervision. Oliver is a joy to work with—he loves to laugh and joke. You will be valued and able to make a meaningful difference in his life. He is supported by a welcoming family.
