Job Title: SEND EHC Team Lead

Location: Apsley, Hemel Hempstead

Starting salary: £42,839 to £47,181 per annum

Contract: Permanent, 37 hours per week

About the role

We’re looking for experienced and motivated SEND Team Leaders to join our School Age Statutory SEND Service. You’ll lead and support a team of EHC Coordinators and Review Officers who deliver high‑quality statutory SEND casework for school‑aged children with Education, Health and Care (EHC) Plans.

You’ll champion person‑centred practice, strong communication, and high‑quality EHC plans, ensuring statutory timescales and performance standards are met. You’ll provide supervision, oversee induction and training, and build positive relationships with families, schools, and partners.

We are recruiting to two types of Team Leader roles, each with a distinct focus:

Team Leader – Complaints

* Lead the triage, allocation, and management of all Stage 1, Stage 2 and Urgent Concern complaints.
* Oversee the allocation and completion of mediations and early dispute resolution work.
* Manage statutory SEND casework related to complaints.
* Provide day‑to‑day line management to EHC Coordinators.

Ideal for someone confident in managing sensitive conversations, high‑risk casework, and producing high‑quality written responses.

Team Leader – EHC Plan Reviews & Locality Leadership

* Oversee the quality and timeliness of EHC plan review paperwork.
* Lead statutory SEND casework within a defined locality.
* Build strong locality‑based relationships with education settings and partners.
* Provide day‑to‑day line management to EHC Coordinators and Review Officers.

Ideal for someone who thrives on operational oversight, partnership working, and supporting staff to deliver consistent, high‑quality casework.

What Both Roles Include

* Formal supervision and staff development (PMDS).
* Induction, training, and ongoing professional development for staff.
* Accurate record‑keeping and database management.
* Contribution to quality assurance, policy development, and service improvement.
* Participation in cross‑county management groups.
* Representing the local authority at SEND tribunals where required.

About You

* In-depth knowledge of SEND legislation and statutory guidance, including the Children and Families Act 2014, SEND Code of Practice, and SEND Regulations, with the ability to interpret and apply these effectively in practice.
* Proven experience in leading and managing staff, with a track record of delivering excellent service outcomes.
* Strong organisational skills and ability to work under pressure, managing competing priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
* Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across education, health, and care services.
* Educated to degree level or equivalent, or significant experience within education or SEND‑related roles.

If you have an unrelenting drive to ensure excellent outcomes for children with special educational needs and disabilities, and you can motivate and manage a team to achieve this – this may be your perfect role!
