Overview
WHERE YOU’LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE
You should feel excited by the prospect of making lasting positive impact through:
* Leading teams of engineers to design, develop and integrate software features to achieve their goals. Aligning team goals with the needs of the broader lab, platform and group.
* Collaborating with the Product Owner and Customer Journey Manager to deliver features on the product roadmaps, manage down technical debt, maintain the health of production instances and to create the space to develop the skills needed by the target technology architecture.
* Engineering solutions to be reliable, scalable, performant, and secure through adequate solution design, utilising endorsed technologies and applying common build patterns. Engage Enterprise Architects, Solution Architects and Technical Communities where needed to drive solution reuse, avoid complexity and creation of point solutions.
* Adopting the group’s tooling capabilities as these mature to access development practice gains through standardised automation in relation to pace, quality and safety.
* Planning work with the team: commit to clear achievable goals, drive appropriate prioritisation, foster collective responsibility of ceremonies, escalate impediments and manage external dependencies adequately.
* Lean-in and take hands-on ownership for unblocking technical challenges and forward-looking to prove out new patterns and technical solutions ready for full use within the team, lab or platform. Where needed, act as a Chapter Lead to drive cross platform strategies and solutions.
* Collaborating with Agility Leads to advance team effectiveness by installing changes that increase cadence of delivery, reduce cost ownership, and maintain high quality of change. Champion the benefits of a single common framework over team-specific practices.
* Establishing active application custodianship to manage incidents, compliance findings, risks and running costs where it is the right answer for the team to maintain production instances; where it isn’t, ensure teams are equipped to succeed.
* Building a strong team by coaching, developing and mentoring engineers on how to achieve their team, technical and personal goals. Modelling group values and accessing frameworks, learning collateral and early careers programmes to build rounded engineering capability within your teams.
* Developing the leadership team within the Lab by role modelling Group Values, setting clear individual objectives and growing people within the Lab to create a true learning culture.
* Embedding Agile and DevOps practices and continuously improving the flow of work; enabling feature teams to design, build and release changes locally through smaller, more frequent releases.
* Ensuring costs are managed against budgets and opportunities to improve efficiency are reviewed; provide critical technical feedback to the investment process to obtain funding for key solution opportunities.
