Scope of Role

The Weekend Machine Shop Supervisor is responsible for the safe and efficient daily operation of the machine shop. The role involves organizing, coordinating, and supervising employees and processes within the machining department to ensure safety, quality, and production standards are met.

Rate of pay: £30 per hour (13 Weeks probationary period CIS / Umbrella)

Shifts: Friday to Sunday, 07:00 - 17:30

You will be required to complete 3 weeks of initial training on the day shift (39 hrs Monday to Thursday, 7am - 5pm).


Key Responsibilities

* Supervision of Machine Shop Operations: Oversee daily operations, ensuring productivity, safety, and quality standards.
* Monitor project progress, adjust resources to meet deadlines.
* Coordinate and assign tasks based on project needs and worker skills.
* Ensure all operators use the Steel Project PLM system for workflow tracking.
* Team Management and Development: Lead, coach, and develop CNC machine operators, conduct performance evaluations, and manage staffing levels.
* Quality Control and Assurance: Ensure inspection processes adhere to standards, address non-conformance issues, collaborate with QA team, and ensure proper documentation.
* Health, Safety, and Environmental Compliance: Promote safety policies, conduct safety inspections, facilitate training, and ensure regulatory compliance.
* Flow of Information and Material: Coordinate with other departments to ensure smooth material and information flow, establish clear indicators.
* Equipment Maintenance and Troubleshooting: Ensure equipment maintenance, coordinate with maintenance team, and address malfunctions.
* Production Planning and Coordination: Develop production schedules, monitor workflow, manage changes, and ensure timely project completion.
* Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records using Steel Projects PLM system.
* Continuous Improvement: Identify improvement areas, implement lean practices, foster innovation, and monitor systems.
* Communication and Coordination: Act as liaison between staff, management, and stakeholders, attend meetings, and ensure effective handovers.
* Authorities, Interface, Reporting, and Supervision: Report to Manufacturing Manager, liaise with senior leaders, and coordinate with all departments as needed.


Skills, Knowledge, and Attributes

* Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
* Leadership, motivation, and mentoring abilities.
* Excellent organizational skills.
* Expertise in CNC machining processes and hands-on experience.


Health, Safety, and Environmental Awareness

* IOSH or NEBOSH safety course preferred.
* Knowledge of workplace safety regulations, risk assessments, and Job Safety Analysis.
* Attention to detail regarding project specifications and standards like ISO 1090 and NSSS.
* Experience with ITPs.
