YOUR NEW ROLE, WHAT’S INVOLVED
As a Technical Director, you’ll typically be working on a variety of projects at once, from a University in Scotland to a high-rise residential tower in London, with plenty of international projects. All with the same goal of enabling innovative architectural design without compromising on the fire safety of the building.
You’ll be running through design information, liaising with other WSP disciplines such as Facades, Acoustics and Structures, presenting designs to local authorities and the Fire Service, and helping to inform the design team about what changes could be made to increase the safety of the building.
There is a structured development pathway toward professional registration via IFE and other professional organisations. WSP offers a bespoke programme to develop professional skills and specialist technical capabilities toward chartered status or equivalent qualifications. The programme includes training in the following areas:
* Technical report writing
* Team specific technical skills
* Project management (intro and advanced)
* Influential communications
* Commercial concepts
* Collaborate team challenge
* Continuous Improvement
Responsibilities
* Lead and contribute to design reviews and technical deliverables for fire engineering projects.
* Coordinate with Facades, Acoustics and Structures teams; engage with local authorities and the Fire Service.
* Advise the design team on changes to improve building safety and performance.
* Participate in software training, fire standards, team briefings and client updates.
* Support professional registration efforts via IFE and other bodies.
Qualifications
* BSc (BEng) or MSc (MEng) in Fire, Structural, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
* Extensive experience within the fire engineering consulting industry.
* This role can be based from any of WSP’s UK major offices.
