Job Description Technical Assistant – Food Manufacturing - Cold Environment Monday to Friday, shifts between – 06:00 to 16:00hrs, 07:30 to 17:30hrs or 08:00-18:00hrs Full-time, permanent (part-time hours may be considered) £15.00–£16.00 per hour (£35k–£37k DOE) Location - Northampton An established food manufacturing business is seeking a Technical Assistant to support its Technical & Quality function at a high-care production site. This role suits someone with a solid understanding of food safety and factory standards who is keen to develop a career within food or meat manufacturing. The successful candidate will bring practical technical skills from day one, an interest in quality and compliance, and a proactive, hands-on approach. The role involves regular exposure to raw and cooked meats. Key responsibilities include: Supporting the site Quality Management System and food safety standards Contributing to site certifications including BRCGS, Red Tractor, Organic, and BMPA Conducting internal audits and managing product, raw material, and environmental testing Creating and maintaining product specifications, quality attributes, and legal labelling Monitoring GMP, hygiene, and factory standards alongside production and hygiene teams Investigating quality and technical issues and driving corrective actions Supporting NPD trials, supplier approval, and continuous improvement projects Championing food safety culture and audit-ready standards across the site The ideal candidate will have: Knowledge of food safety principles within a manufacturing environment Experience in chilled or high-risk food production (desirable) Awareness of BRCGS standards (Red Tractor/Organic exposure beneficial) Understanding of GMP, food law, labelling, and quality systems Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills A food science or related qualification (desirable) Apply today to find out more!
