Principal Clinical Scientist

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full‑time Principal Clinical Scientist to join a team of 5 consultant staff and 8 Clinical Scientists within the Biochemistry Department at Glasgow Royal Infirmary. This well‑equipped laboratory provides specialist local and regional endocrine, vitamin and trace element analyses.
The successful applicant will participate in all aspects of the department including reporting, clinical liaison, research and innovation, teaching and audit. We are looking for someone with an interest in endocrinology and tandem mass spectrometry.
Applications are invited from HCPC registered Clinical Scientists with an MSc or equivalent, part 1 FRCPath and a minimum of 4 years’ clinical biochemistry experience (or 3 years’ experience for appointment under AfC annex 21). The department is fully committed to professional and personal development and will support the successful applicant in achieving full FRCPath.
Benefits and Working Hours
From 1 April 2026, the Agenda for Change full‑time working week will reduce from 37 hours to 36 hours. Part‑time working hours will be reduced on a pro‑rata basis. A corresponding increase in the hourly rate will apply, ensuring that overall pay remains unchanged.
