A leading provider of editorial and production services to the publishing industry is looking for a Production Editor to join its Academic division. Our client, a fast-growing company specialising in project management for academic and educational resources, seeks a meticulous, highly organised individual to support a range of editorial print and digital projects.
This is a permanent, fully remote role, but applicants must be based in the UK.
Key Responsibilities
As a Production Editor, you'll oversee the production of academic books and journals, managing projects from manuscript submission through to final delivery. Responsibilities include:
·Managing a portfolio of academic titles, ensuring smooth progress from manuscript to final files
·Liaising with authors, clients, and suppliers, maintaining clear, professional communication
·Overseeing schedules and budgets, ensuring delivery within deadlines and pricing guidelines
·Commissioning and coordinating freelance copy-editors, indexers, and proofreaders, monitoring quality and providing feedback
·Working with internal editorial support to maintain workflow efficiency
·Delivering final files to clients on time and within budget
·Keeping clients and authors updated, addressing queries promptly
·Liaising with typesetters, sending edited manuscripts and managing corrections
·Collating and checking corrections from authors and proofreaders to ensure accuracy
·Participating in online team meetings to support production planning and updates
About You
You have some experience in publishing, strong organisational skills, and an eye for detail. You're adaptable, able to manage multiple projects at once, and enjoy working collaboratively in a supportive team. This role is ideal for someone looking to build a career in academic publishing, offering hands-on experience across editorial and production processes.
