Overview
Trainee Children's Wellbeing Practitioner (CWP) – a training position within the Children and Young People\'s Psychological Trainings programme (CYP-PT). The post-holder will work within a CYP mental health service focused on outreach to the community, delivering under supervision high-quality, brief outcome-focused, evidence-based interventions and guided self-help for children and young people experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties in the community. The training and service experience will equip the post holder with the knowledge, attitude and capabilities to operate in an inclusive, value-driven service.
Responsibilities
* Offer a range of flexible, compassionate and engaging mental health interventions for young people, including individual and parent-led support, group work and psycho-educational activities, as well as workshops and crisis support where needed.
* Monitor the effectiveness of interventions using routine outcome monitoring tools reviewed directly with young people.
* Maintain safeguarding awareness and respond to risk while respecting the young person\'s autonomy where possible.
* Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all work delivered on relevant data systems and contribute to monitoring and evaluation of services.
* Ensure young people\'s voices are central to service developments and participate in engagement activities within the charity.
* Promote the charity\'s services to young people, communities and professionals.
* Attend regular clinical and line management supervision and participate in team/charity meetings, including occasional Saturday meetings or training days.
* Actively implement the charity\'s equalities, diversity and user engagement policies.
Qualifications and Experience
* Essential: Undergraduate degree (upper second class or above) in Psychology or related subject, or a subject with relevant training or experience in a related field (e.g., Education, Childhood Development, Social Work; Teaching or TA, Learning Support, HCA, Youth Work, Counselling).
* Essential: Knowledge of children and young people gained through academic study in child development, wellbeing or mental health.
* Essential: Working understanding of equality, diversity and inclusion principles and commitment to inclusive, culturally sensitive services (including LGBTQ and neurodiverse young people and those with disabilities).
* Essential: Relevant professional experience in CYP mental health or mentorship (or equivalent).
Training and Supervision
* Attend and complete the training element of the post, including practical, academic and practice-based assessments to successfully complete the PG Diploma as part of becoming a fully qualified CWP.
* Attend the University for training and fulfil private study requirements of at least one day per week.
* Apply learning to practice and receive supervision to support professional development.
* Prepare and present case load information to supervisors on a scheduled basis to ensure safe practice and governance obligations are met.
* Engage in personal development supervision to improve competencies and practice.
Job Details
* Location: Across Off The Record borough-based services in Croydon, Sutton and Merton.
* Hours: Full-time (35 hours per week); occasional evening work and Saturday meetings (TOIL provided).
* Salary: NHS Band 4 FTE (£32,199) including Outer London Weighting.
* Contract: Training position; 365 days duration; may require working across different service areas.
* Start date: Applicants should be ready to start in early/mid-January 2026.
