Multi-Professional Approved Clinician (MPAC) FIND, Devon Partnership Trust

A unique opportunity has arisen for a MPAC within the Forensic Intellectual and Neurodevelopmental Disorders (FIND) Service, part of our Community Forensic Service alongside SCFT and FPDS. FIND is a regional team covering Devon, Cornwall, Plymouth, and the Isles of Scilly.

FIND supports individuals with Intellectual Disabilities, Autism, and/or Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) through a four-tiered model: signposting and advice; consultation and supervision; joint work and care pathway planning; and future Tier 4 caseload coordination. The post-holder will be the community RC for a capped caseload.

The development Multi-ProfessionalApproved Clinician (MPAC) practice, within Devon Partnership Trust (DPT)

Devon Partnership Trust is nationally recognised for its innovative MPAC development. We currently support 11 MPACs, 3 trainees and 2 SAS Doctors. Were committed to diversifying our workforce, valuing multi-professional expertise. A strong governance and CPD structure is in place, including monthly peer supervision and 2 days annual CPD.

Thepost holder will be an integral member of the Medical Advisory Committee andwill also be encouraged to apply to join the DHSCs England South MHA ApprovalsPanel.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will play a vital role in the growth and leadership of the FIND service, providing senior clinical input across Secure Services and joining the Secure Service on-call rota, which includes middle and junior grade support. The service is commissioned by the South West Provider Collaborative (SWPC), offering scope to contribute to regional strategy. We're seeking an MPAC who champions the development of MPAC practice across the Trust.

Key responsibilities include:

Providing clinical leadership within the FIND team

Acting as Responsible Clinician for the Devon Tier 4 caseload

Offering expert consultation across Devon and Cornwalls Secure LDA cohort

Triage and assessment for Community Forensic Service access, and pathway planning

Developing evidence-based treatment plans and risk management advice

Leading and liaising across multi-disciplinary and multi-agency settings

Supporting MHA and MCA implementation

The post-holder will also:

Attend weekly team and service meetings

Mentor and provide placements for Trainee Approved Clinicians

Support shadowing and participate in learning sets

Attend monthly AC supervision and 2 annual CPD days

Oversee and verify Trainee AC portfolios

Knowledge

* KNOWLEDGE
* Knowledge of various approaches to mental health assessment.
* Knowledge of the principles of Care Co-ordination.
* Awareness of harassment, social exclusion issues and the effects of person and institutional discrimination.
* Knowledge/awareness of relevant legislation and guidance including the Mental Capacity Act 2005, the Mental Health Act 1983 (as amended), Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DOLS), The Care Act (2014), The Human Rights Act (1998), The National Service Framework and Clinical Governance.
* Skills in assessing, planning and evaluating mental health care/treatment interventions.
* Expertise in psychosocial interventions, including relapse signatures and relapse prevention plans.

Experience

* EXPERIENCE
* Significant and in-depth post qualifying clinical experience, minimum of 5 years post professional qualifying clinical experience at a senior position.
* As a minimum, one years experience of working with LDA patients.
* As a minimum, one years experience of working within Secure Services, be it a community or in-patient setting.
* Evidence of leading effectively at a senior level in a multi-disciplinary health and social care setting (mental health).
* Experience of working with a range of statutory and non-statutory agencies.
* Experience of engaging in service development activities.
* Evidence of promoting research, evidence based practice, clinical excellence and quality approaches to support outcome focussed care.
* Experience in facilitating learning within clinical practice.
* Experience of managing, supervising and supporting teams.
* Ability to clinically assess mental disorder and to knowledgeably apply the statutory criteria for the key decision reserved to the RC.


Qualifications

* A professional mental health qualification eg: RMN, CQSW / DipSW / BSc SW / MASW, BSc/Diploma in OT, SROT, DClinPsy or equivalent practitioner psychology training, ENB 811/812 or CPN Degree.
* A current registration with a professional body i.e. NMC; HCPC, SWEng.
* Trained and currently approved as an Approved Clinician, with one of the four DHSCs MHA Approvals Panels.
* Advanced physical healthcare assessment qualification.
* To undertake the strategic role, demonstrable experience of having worked as an Approved Clinician, for at least one year.
* A postgraduate certificate or diploma, within the candidates professional field or related therapy discipline.
* Independent and supplementary prescribing qualification.
