We are supporting a long-standing commercial organisation that supplies safety-critical products and services into regulated markets. Operating nationally, the business is well-regarded in its sector and has a strong presence in the Power & Utilities space, providing essential goods and managed service solutions to major infrastructure providers and contractors.
Following a strategic review, they have reshaped their approach to bidding and are now seeking an experienced Bid Writer to lead and embed a focused, high-quality bid function at the core of the business.
About the Role
This is a hands-on, strategic role where you will manage the full lifecycle of bids: from identifying opportunities to planning, writing, submission, and post-bid analysis. The successful candidate will be part of the commercial team and serve as the expert for all bid and tender activities across the company.
The business has adopted a selective approach to bidding, focusing on target clients. Bidding is supported by senior leadership and cross-departmental collaboration.
You will have access to internal working groups across various functions and direct involvement from the CEO and senior leadership. The company is building a formal bid library, and you will have the opportunity to shape it and introduce valuable content.
This is a fully office-based role at the company's head office in Poole. The culture is collaborative and fast-paced, emphasizing cross-departmental work.
Key Responsibilities
1. Manage the end-to-end bid process, from opportunity tracking and qualification to submission and lessons learned.
2. Write, edit, and coordinate technical and commercial responses that are accurate, persuasive, and well-structured.
3. Coordinate with internal stakeholders (sales, operations, procurement, marketing, SLT) to ensure timely and accurate input.
4. Lead bid planning sessions, contribute to bid/no-bid decisions, and develop win strategies.
5. Develop the bid library and proposal content repository.
6. Collaborate with procurement to gather and incorporate pricing details.
7. Monitor upcoming opportunities via relevant portals.
8. Analyze bid outcomes to improve processes and submissions.
What We're Looking For
1. Proven Bid Writer or Bid Manager with a record of high-quality submissions.
2. Training in bid methodologies (e.g., Shipley, APMP).
3. Excellent writing and editing skills, capable of translating technical input into compelling content.
4. Strong project management and stakeholder engagement skills.
5. Organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple workstreams.
6. Commercial awareness and understanding of buyer motivations.
7. Ambitious, self-motivated, and committed to personal development.
8. Experience in Power & Utilities or similar sectors is advantageous but not essential.
Why Apply?
* Join a forward-thinking, collaborative organization that values bids and strategic growth.
* Shape and improve the bid function and win rates.
* Work closely with senior decision-makers for influence and visibility.
* Be part of a proactive business targeting major clients and growth opportunities.
* Enjoy excellent culture, benefits, and a supportive environment for growth.
