Packaging Technologist (Food/FMCG)

We are seeking a Packaging Technologist to join our New Product Development (NPD) team. This role is crucial in supporting packaging development to understand consumer and customer needs, ensuring our packaging meets technical requirements and contributes to commercial growth and competitive advantage for the company's products.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
* Manage Relationships and Processes
o Manage relationships with design houses to develop good practices.
o Improve printing processes and quality of reprographics.
o Brief artworks, create and maintain cutter guides.
o Coordinate packaging redesign projects on current SKUs and manage new film changeovers on site.
* Support New Product Development
o Support the NPD process to bring new products to market with trials and transit support.
o Manage timelines for packaging printing and introduction on site.
* Operational Support
o Address day-to-day issues with site packaging, supporting QA and operations.
* Packaging Product Development
o Develop understanding of our packaging products to improve operational line efficiency and product efficacy.
* Compliance and Cost Management
o Ensure all existing packaging is fit for purpose and compliant with technical and legal requirements.
o Deliver packaging cost saving and rationalisation projects.
o Build supplier relationships to increase our packaging knowledge of industry trends and competitors and enhance our innovation capability.
Challenges
* Addressing quality issues in operations.
* Resolving NPD challenges when equipment is not producing packaging correctly on first production.
* Cost reduction in packaging without compromising quality.
* Solving legal issues related to packaging printing or production.
* Managing artwork production within challenging lead times.
* Determining the correct barrier film for product type and shelf life requirements.
Required Skills & Qualifications
* Education: Degree level in Packaging or related field preferred.
* Experience: Significant experience in NPD Packaging.
* Skills:
o Strong problem-solving skills.
o Excellent relationship management and communication skills.
o Ability to work under pressure in a challenging environment.
Working Conditions
