1 Month Contract
Summary
This role is integral to supporting the Council in debt recovery particularly focusing on enforcing obligations under S.106 Town & Country Planning Act 1990 agreements. The position involves providing legal services to the Council its Executive Committees and Departments including senior officers and elected members. The role also encompasses undertaking civil litigation on behalf of the Council and advising client departments on litigation-related issues aligning with the Councils business needs and objectives under the guidance of the Senior Civil Litigation Officer and Principal Solicitor.
Responsibilities
* Assist with debt matters within the Litigation Department focusing on debts from planning developments including case management and attending hearings.
* Act as an advocate in County Court for debt cases managing litigation to recover debts and enforce S.106 agreements.
* Prepare and apply for injunctions to enforce S.106 provisions and address anti-social behaviour.
* Provide legal advice to senior officers and elected members and assist in advising the Executive Committees and Sub-Committees.
* Participate in corporate inter divisional or interdepartmental projects to help the Council formulate and implement policies in accordance with the law.
Requirements
* Experience in civil litigation in County Court including court appearances.
* Proven ability to manage resources effectively for high-quality service delivery.
* Experience in handling debt recovery cases.
* Proficient in drafting legal documents and problem-solving with a clear systematic approach.
* Strong communication skills both oral and written with the ability to advise at all levels.
* Capability to manage a caseload under supervision and provide sound legal advice.
* Good analytical skills to understand client needs and business risks.
* Competent in ICT including word-processing case management systems and databases.
* Knowledge of equalities issues legislation and the ability to address discrimination.
* Understanding of legislation and procedures related to S.106 Town & Country Planning Act 1990 debt recovery Civil Procedure Rules Local Government Law and GDPR.
* Familiarity with the Councils Constitution and its impact on the role.
* Must be an Admitted Solicitor Barrister or Fellow of CILEX qualified in England with a current practising certificate or the ability to obtain one.
* Agile and flexible working to meet service needs.
