Job Description
The Cardiac Sonographer is responsible for performing echocardiographic techniques and procedures to assist physicians in diagnosing medical conditions in patients.
Responsibilities and Duties
1. Obtain diagnostic echocardiographic recordings or images following established procedures, including echocardiography with echo contrast, cardiac ultrasound, and stress echocardiography.
2. Explain procedures to patients and provide necessary instructions.
3. Prepare patients for procedures, including vital signs, monitoring equipment, and diagnostic tools.
4. Review patient records and clinical information pertinent to the test.
5. Perform assessments using patient interviews and physical examinations.
6. Recognize and correct technical problems, abnormal findings, and serious abnormalities requiring immediate reporting.
7. Complete documentation for proper billing and record-keeping.
8. Maintain supplies and equipment, including cleaning and scheduled maintenance.
9. Assist with new procedures and stay updated on technological advancements.
Education
Graduate of a 2–4-year Allied Health training program required.
Experience
Two (2) years of training in cardiac sonography preferred. Recent graduates are encouraged to apply.
Certification & Licensure
Must be registered by ARDMS (RDCS) or CCI (RCS or ACS). BLS certification from AHA is required before completing orientation.
Qualifications
Must possess the physical, mental, and technical skills to perform diagnostic testing on adult cardiovascular patients. Effective communication skills are essential.
