Overview
Portakabin is seeking an experienced Quality Engineer to join our team at the Head Office in York. The role focuses on resolving product quality issues, driving improvements through analysis and problem‑solving, and monitoring quality performance measures.
Job Details
* Compensation: £35,000 – £40,000 per year (salary up to £40,000, dependent on skills and experience)
* Bonus: Up to 5% annual target bonus, with potential to earn up to 10% based on business and departmental performance
* Location: New Lane, Huntington, York, YO32 9PT – must live local to York
* Contract: Permanent
* Annual leave: 25 days per annum plus bank holidays; option to purchase an additional 5 days each year
Responsibilities
* Problem‑solve quality issues, identify root causes, and implement improvement opportunities
* Measure, verify and inspect materials to ensure compliance with specifications
* Conduct internal supplier and process audits and support external audits, ensuring non‑conformities are closed out
* Act as a Quality ambassador by delivering training, coaching and sharing best practice across teams
* Coordinate cross‑functional problem‑solving activities, facilitate meetings and drive actions
* Create reports and presentation materials, providing quality analysis and supporting senior‑level quality reviews
* Liaise between departments and engage with suppliers and the supply chain on quality matters
* Complete quality reports, problem escalations and concession documentation, supporting stakeholders to do the same

Ideal Candidate
* Acts as an ambassador for Quality, including training, coaching and sharing best practice at all levels
* Ability to read and understand design, engineering, manufacturing and measurement, including drawings, geometric tolerancing and measurement techniques
* Knowledge of Quality Systems (e.g., ISO 9001)
* Understanding of problem‑solving and continuous improvement techniques
* Experience of data collection and analysis
* HNC/HND/Degree in Engineering or equivalent
* Full UK driving licence
* Experience of data analysis, statistical techniques and presentation skills
* Experience of problem solving, root cause analysis and continuous process improvement
