Position Title: Special Education Resource Room Teacher

Building: Mason Middle School / Mason Public Schools / In-Person

Reports to: Special Education Director

Job Summary: Special Education Teacher to support students with IEPs through systems that promote emotional regulation and proactive academic behaviors.

Qualifications Required:

* Michigan Teaching Certificate – Secondary
* Certification in Special Education
* Three years of experience teaching special education

Job Description:

* Ability to analyze academic and behavioral data and adjust instruction based on trends and patterns
* Provide support to caseload teachers re: CPI processes/ responses and seclusion/restraint documentation
* Provide ongoing support for general education teachers (including curriculum adaptations, behavior management, goal setting, IEP objectives, etc.) utilizing evidence-based practices and strategies appropriate to support students with disabilities
* Direct student support
* Provide small group/1:1 instruction in executive functioning, regulation, and academics
* Teach study skills: time management, task initiation, goal setting
* Apply strategies across content areas and settings
* Track progress toward IEP goals
* Systems Development Create and refine proactive systems: check-in/check-out, strategy menus, visual supports
* Implement tiered supports within MTSS/PBIS
* Build tools to help students internalize routines
* Collaboration & consultation support to general education teachers with behavior strategies and accommodations
* Attend IEP meetings and offer data-informed input
* Collaborate with social workers, counselors, and staff
* Provide professional development and coaching as needed
* Compliance and documentation – maintain accurate records of services, accommodations, and progress
* Ensure all practices align with federal/state requirements
* Experience teaching emotionally impaired students
* Uses innovative teaching techniques to actively engage all students in the learning process
* Integration of technology into the classroom
* Knowledge and experience setting up and utilizing classroom behavior management systems
* Experience developing individualized behavior or academic plans for students with emotional impairments
* Possesses a caring, creative, energetic personality
* Demonstration of effective classroom management
* Work with general education teachers to modify curriculum or address behavior needs of students with disabilities in the general education classroom
* Experience conducting annual IEP’s and other caseload management duties
* Demonstrated experience collecting and charting behavior data
* Experience with Medicaid billing
* Ability to demonstrate proper use of crisis prevention intervention strategies
* Knowledge of appropriate documentation of isolation or restraint data
* Ability to effectively oversee and utilize paraprofessional staff

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

* This position requires long periods of standing, sitting, and walking.
* The position requires occasional lifting of supplies and movement of classroom furnishings during the course of the school day.
* Work takes place both indoors and outdoors, with some travel to other schools or field trip locations.
