The Ear, Nose & Throat (ENT) Department & Thoracic Surgery Department are looking for a Deputy Performance and Operations Manager (DPOM) to join their team.

This is an exceptional opportunity to take on a challenging, high profile role within the Division of Surgery. Based in St Michaels Hospital, the post holder will be responsible for the day to day operational running of the ENT Bristol & Weston departments and the Thoracic Surgery Department. Working with the Performance & Operations Manager, the successful candidate will play a pivotal role leading a team of administrators, whilst working closely with clinical and management teams.

The successful candidate will ideally have astrongoperational background working within healthcare and have the ability to communicate effectively with staff and patients. They should demonstrate strong leadership skills, positivity, resilience and enthusiasm.

A proven track record in delivering service improvements would be advantageous, and a passion to improve patient care is essential. In return you can expect to work in a fast-paced environment, working with a variety of clinical and non-clinical staff, in a role which is challenging but rewarding.


Main duties of the job

Reporting to the Performance and Operations Manager (POM); the post holder will manage, motivate and develop the team of staff providing administrative services to the medical teams and other staff, as well as providing day-to-day operational management for the allocated clinical departments, working closely with the clinical directors, matrons and other members of the management team. This is to include the management of pay and non-pay budgets, Health & Safety and all aspects of Human Resources within their areas of responsibility. The post holder will contribute to the delivery of challenging performance targets through effective communication and liaise with staff across the Trust as well as organising and analysing complex data.

Person specification


Knowledge and Experience:

* People Management – appraisals, managing poor performance, misconduct, organisational change and staff selection & recruitment
* Managing teams to meet deadlines, targets and changing priorities
* Experience of managing outpatients performance and access targets
* Experience of managing elective, non-elective and emergency patient pathways
* NHS Experience
* Extensive direct line management experience (a team of 6 or more)
* Project Management
