Country: United Kingdom Santander Consumer Finance (SCUK) is one of the UK’s Leading Motor Finance companies and we are currently looking for a Regulatory Legal Counsel to support the head of the function to provide legal and regulatory advice to the business to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements with a Think Customer approach. This role will support the Head of Legal to provide accurate and timely advice to all areas of the business and ensure that strategic and business objectives are delivered with legal risks monitored and controlled. To also anticipate, review and implement new legislative requirements and regulatory requirements affecting SCUK and to ensure the profile of legal risk management remains as priority within the business. Please note this role is a hybrid role with at least 3 days a week in the Redhill office. Remote workers will not be considered. Responsibilities will include: Act as a point of contact for the business on legal matters and advice Review relevant laws and regulation and actively collaborate with other functions and stakeholders on the timely implementation of requirements or changes Advice on interpretation and impact of relevant laws/regulation affecting the Company Draft and review consumer finance agreements and other documentation such as regulatory notices (Annual Statements, NOSIAs etc) (from inception) and transact accordingly in a legally compliant manner in accordance with Company policies and business requirements and keep appropriate records Provision of support on remedial plans / advice and incident management Draft and manage public-facing terms of use, consumer disclosures, FAQs, privacy policies, cookie policies Review and approve relevant financial promotions and adverts Assist with product reviews and designs Assist in regulatory landscape horizon scanning Assist the Head of Legal in running and delivery of legal and business projects including reviewing requirements documentation and making recommendations from a legal advisory perspective Raise the profile of legal services and legal risk management within the business by utilising various channels Attend meetings / industry forums as directed by the Head of Legal Manage and coordinate relevant external legal support Deal with or escalate any identified risks in relation to Santander Consumer risk policies and/or legislative and regulatory guidelines in accordance with the Santander UK group risk framework Other ad hoc tasks as directed by the Head of Legal or the Department Director Assist the Head of Legal, the Legal & Compliance Director or the Compliance team in ensuring effective governance is in place, such as reviewing and drafting policies, procedures, committee terms of references, drafting relevant committee documents and minutes Manage in conjunction with relevant department stakeholders, relevant corporate governance and some company secretarial activities Adhering to our commitment to Consumer Duty ensuring we put our customers’ needs first and set higher and clearer standards of consumer protection What we’re looking for: Qualified Solicitor/Barrister/Attorney/FCILEX- NQ-5yrs PQE with demonstrable relevant experience Excellent academic background to include degree Extensive knowledge and practical experience of Consumer Credit and/or Retail Financial Services working for an in-house legal department of a financial services company In depth industry knowledge of regulations and issues impacting consumer finance agreements and institutions.
