They are seeking an experienced, sharp, highly motivated, and organized Assistant Editor in Chief with a background in celebrity/entertainment news.
The ideal candidate will be passionate about celebrity news, innovative in generating news ideas, have a proven track record of landing exclusives, possess a keen eye for visually appealing layouts, and be skilled in writing and editing under pressure and tight deadlines.
As Assistant Editor, you will oversee all news coverage, manage the news team, and ensure content aligns with the magazine’s tone, style, and values, while staying informed on journalism laws.
You should have strong connections with top entertainment PRs and publicists in the UK and US, with examples of recent exclusives and contacts across the celebrity, TV, film, and music industries.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Assist the Editor and Deputy Editor with editorial planning, production, and execution from a news perspective.
2. Cover for the Deputy Editor when necessary.
3. Manage the News Editor and oversee news coverage, setting the weekly news agenda.
4. Coordinate with the Deputy Editor on daily content workflow, ensuring timely, high-quality articles.
5. Enhance authority and competitiveness through exclusive news stories and contacts.
6. Develop innovative angles on trending stories to stand out.
7. Use analytics to inform content strategy and boost engagement.
8. Maintain strong relationships with celebrities, PRs, agents, and industry contacts.
9. Attend weekly entertainment industry events.
10. Proven ability to break exclusive stories appealing to the audience.
11. Plan coverage around major entertainment and news events.
12. Pitch news ideas daily for online and print, and in weekly meetings.
13. Coordinate with writers, the picture desk, and contributors for articles and interviews.
14. Collaborate with the Art Department to create compelling layouts and visuals.
15. Write engaging headlines and coverlines.
16. Contribute to brainstorming for news features and special issues.
17. Contribute to social media and digital content promotion.
