Health & Safety Advisor

Champneys Head Office

Role Overview

The Health & Safety Advisor is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring health, safety, and compliance programs within the spas and hospitality environments. This role ensures a safe working environment for employees and a safe relaxing experience for guests while maintaining full compliance with local health regulations, hospitality standards, and industry best practices.

Key Responsibilities
Health & Safety Compliance

1. Ensure compliance with local and national health and safety regulations.
2. Help to create and advise on regular risk assessments across spa facilities, guest areas, treatment rooms, kitchens, pools, and back-of-house areas.
3. Maintain up-to-date health & safety documentation and policies.
4. Liaise with regulatory bodies and manage inspections.
5. Train through new systems with staff and managers to ensure compliance is achieved

Risk Management

6. Identify potential hazards and implement corrective actions.
7. Develop and maintain incident reporting and investigation procedures.
8. Conduct accident investigations and prepare detailed reports.
9. Monitor high-risk areas such as wet zones, sauna/steam rooms, pools, and chemical storage areas.

Spa-Specific Safety Oversight

10. Ensure safe handling and storage of spa chemicals, oils, and cleaning products.
11. Oversee hygiene protocols for treatment rooms and therapy equipment.
12. Monitor water quality testing procedures for pools, hot tubs, and hydrotherapy facilities. Existing Knowledge of pools and spas would be helpful; however a training course can be provided as required
13. Ensure infection control standards are maintained.

Training & Awareness

14. Deliver health & safety induction training to new staff. This will involve travel to other sites as required
15. Provide ongoing safety training for therapists, housekeeping, kitchen staff, and maintenance teams.
16. Conduct fire drills and emergency response training with sites where it’s identified we are falling short of policy requirements
17. Promote a strong safety culture across all departments that you interact with

Emergency Preparedness

18. Develop and update emergency response plans for sites
19. Coordinate fire safety systems testing and evacuation procedures where this doesn’t meet current requirements,
20. Act as lead contact during safety incidents.
21. Ensure first aid coverage and AED availability at sites is compliant and help sites identify what their first aid requirements are

Audit & Continuous Improvement

22. Conduct internal audits and compliance checks using our H&S software and our Maintenance task software
23. Review policies regularly and update as required.
24. Track KPIs related to incidents, near-misses, RIDDORs and compliance.
25. Recommend constructive improvements to management.
26. Further tasks as the position develops as required

Qualifications & Requirements

27. Formal Qualification in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Health, or related field (preferred).
28. NEBOSH, IOSH, or equivalent health & safety certification.
29. Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in hospitality, spa, wellness, or hotel environment.
30. Strong knowledge of infection control and chemical handling especially in pool and spa environments
31. Experience conducting risk assessments and audits.
32. Excellent report writing and communication skills.
33. Access to a vehicle and hold a valid UK driving licence to visit other properties
