Job Description- Senior Brewer

Role Purpose:

As a Senior Brewer, you'll be responsible for the day-to-day management of the brewing and packaging personnel to safely and sustainably brew and package the beer requirements to deliver exceptional quality, volume and cost efficiency to ensure there is sufficient stock available to service the customers.

Key Responsibilities:

* Leadership of the team leaders and team members for brewing, fermenting and cask racking to enable effective performance through agreed objectives to deliver the company vision and the brewery goals.
* Operational management of the team leaders and team members for brewing, fermenting and cask racking to ensure production schedules are met.
* Ensure compliance to the quality system and Health and safety policies.
* Planning and scheduling of weekly brewing, racking and tanker programs ensuring the optimal resources are available.
* Innovation – working with the Head Brewer and marketing to support the company NPD agenda.
* Working with the Quality and Health and Safety Managers to ensure the annual training plans are effectively delivered to ensure compliance standards are met.
* Working with the engineering team to ensure brewery sustainability and utility monthly KPIs are achieved.
* Agreeing team leaders and team member development plans and working with the Head Brewer and Operations Directors on key role succession plans.
* Duty brewer rota – out of hours call and weekend rota to cover essential brewing and brewery duties, fermentation monitoring and team member support.

Who we are looking for

* CIBD Diploma in Brewing and a science-based degree.
* CIBD Master Brewer (desirable).
* H&S Qualification – IOSH (desirable).
* Management / Leadership qualifications (desirable).
* Technical brewing skills – proficiency in brewing equipment, processes and quality assurance. This includes a knowledge of raw materials, yeast, fermentation, hop chemistry and beer stability.
* Scientific skills – understanding the chemical and biological aspects of brewing, which are crucial for recipe development and sensory evaluation.
* Practical skills – hands on experience with brewing equipment, recipe development and sensory evaluation.
* Leadership and management skills – the ability to inspire, motivate and lead teams, manage production schedules and ensure quality and consistency in the final product. Possess strong communication and listening skills.
* Quality control and assurance – skills in quality control checks, maintaining accurate records and ensuring the final product meets the highest standards of quality and consistency.
* Critical thinking – analysing evidence and argument to form rational judgements and solve complex problems.
* Adaptability – being open to change and able to adjust strategies in response to new challenges.
* Sustainability literacy – skills in water conservation, energy efficiency, renewable energy sources, waste management and eco- friendly packaging to continue to reduce the environmental impact of the brewery.
* Financial management – effectively manage budgets to control production costs, optimize resource allocation and minimise losses.
* Health and Safety – understanding and adhering to the health and safety regulations including the Health and Safety at Work act 1974, COSSH, fire safety, manual handling and the use of PPE.
