The Role
* Responsible and accountable for the delivery, management and ongoing development of an effective discipline specific clinical laboratory service across NHS Lanarkshire (three acute sites and Primary Care)
* To plan long term strategy that provides a clinical laboratory service for the organisation and ensures that contingencies are in place that maintain the service and take account of uncertainty within the changing environment e.g. interpretation and application of local and national guidelines into policy for the service, the post holder would play the lead role in effecting implementation of plans and strategies.
* Professional lead and line manager for Healthcare Scientists (Biomedical Scientists (BMS) and MLA staff) and related staff for the discipline. This encompasses responsibility for finance e.g. budget planning, monitoring, control and procurement of equipment and supplies, human resources, quality, training, performance and professional development of staff.
* Responsible and accountable for ensuring staff training and education meets the requirements of the Health Professions Council and the Institute of Biomedical Science.
* Responsible and accountable for interpretation and application of local and government policy for the discipline specific clinical laboratory.

What we'll need you to bring
* Registration with the Health Professions Council is mandatory.
* Healthcare Science Masters Degree / Fellowship plus further professional training, development at equivalent level
* Chartered Scientist Status is expected.
* Further specialist Knowledge of a clinical or specialist area.
* The post holder must hold a Management qualification such as the Diploma in Management Studies (2 years part time) or the Diploma in Medical Laboratory Management (2 years part time) or have equivalent management training.
* Evidence of continuing professional development for example a portfolio of highly developed specialist knowledge, including management and service development
