Higher Level Pharmacy Technician - Clinical
Communications and relationship skills: Build and maintain good working relationships with other members of the pharmacy clinical team, pharmacy department, ward staff, and healthcare professionals. Work as part of the clinical team in delivering clinical services to wards. Communicate effectively with University Hospitals Sussex partners, including primary care and other hospitals. Deal with pharmacy-related queries or refer to the appropriate staff. Communicate well with patients, families, and carers.
Analytical and Judgemental skills: Assist in training pharmacy staff for medicines optimisation, including assessing competence. Undertake medicines reconciliations, assess patients' own drugs, and provide patient counselling, reporting issues regarding compliance and adherence.
Planning and Organisational skills: Organise workload for the clinical technician and assistant team, participate in running daily reports, and act as Educational Supervisor. Liaise with the Pharmacy Education Department, act as Line Manager and Expert Witness for trainee pharmacy technicians. Provide medicines optimisation services and final accuracy checks on prescriptions.
Patient/Client Care: Maintain patient confidentiality, organise medication arrangements for complex patients, and coordinate with external organisations for safe ongoing care. Promote safe prescribing and administration practices.
Policy and Service Development: Promote policies and procedures, assist in developing and monitoring clinical services.
Financial and Physical Development: Be aware of the value of medicines, participate in cost improvement projects, and promote use of patients' own drugs to reduce waste.
Human Resources: Commit to further education, assist in training staff and students, and supervise pharmacy rotations and placements.
Information Resources: Use the Trust's EPMA JAC System, maintain records according to policy, and be proficient with Microsoft Office tools.
Research and Development: Participate in projects, audits, and surveys to improve pharmacy services and safety initiatives.
Professional Development: Maintain registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council, engage in mandatory training, and undertake additional duties as assigned.
