Job Description:
Summary
Yelp engineering culture is driven by our values: we’re a cooperative team that values individual authenticity and encourages creative solutions to problems. All new engineers deploy working code within their first week, and we strive to broaden individual impact with support from managers, mentors, and teams. At the end of the day, we’re all about helping our users, growing as engineers, and having fun in a collaborative environment.
Are you interested in building tools that help our largest clients effectively manage their presence on Yelp? Our teams focus on specialized user interfaces, internal tools, and advanced reporting for businesses with 30+ locations. In this role, you’ll design and implement solutions that enable these high-profile customers to manage their campaigns, generate comprehensive reports, and empower our internal teams at scale. We are always exploring new features and ways to help our customers.
We’re looking for a full-stack engineer to drive the creation of these new products, spanning everything from back-end services to intuitive front-end experiences. This position involves tackling complex technical challenges and collaborating with product, business, and cross-functional teams to ensure Yelp’s largest clients have the tools and features they need to succeed.
This opportunity requires you to be located in the United Kingdom. We encourage you to apply even if you don’t meet every single requirement listed. At Yelp, we value great people over checklists.
What you'll do:
1. Build and maintain specialized user interfaces, internal tools, and advanced reporting for multi-location businesses on Yelp.
2. Iterate quickly using Continuous Integration / Continuous Deployment principles to deliver new features at scale.
3. Articulate a clear technical vision for large-business solutions and drive that vision to completion.
4. Collaborate with engineers and teams across the company to design and implement reliable, scalable systems.
5. Develop front-end and back-end features that empower large clients to manage their campaigns and presence on Yelp.
6. Implement modern, responsive UIs.
7. Deploy and monitor services in a service-oriented architecture, ensuring efficient and stable user experiences.
8. Dive into data to identify issues and address customer needs, iterating on features as necessary.
9. Work closely with product, design, and stakeholder teams to ensure features meet business and client expectations.
10. Mentor fellow engineers and share your knowledge to help grow the team’s full-stack expertise.
What it takes to succeed:
1. Ability to coordinate and work with multiple teams/stakeholders to execute high-impact projects.
2. Proven track record of designing, building, and deploying reliable full-stack products.
3. Demonstrated ability to design, build, and roll out reliable products.
4. Great understanding of databases and Service-Oriented Architecture.
5. Relevant experience in at least one server-side programming language, preferably Python.
6. Relevant experience with JavaScript / TypeScript.
7. Familiarity with popular web frameworks (Django, Flask, etc.) or modern JS frameworks (React, Angular, Vue, etc.).
8. Keen interest in scalability, reliability, and performance challenges.
9. Understanding of web security and performance best practices.
10. Comfortable working in a Unix environment.
What you'll get:
1. Full responsibility for projects from day one, a collaborative team, and a dynamic work environment.
2. Competitive salary, pension scheme, and an optional employee stock purchase plan.
3. 25 days paid holiday (rising to 29 with service), plus one floating holiday.
4. £150 monthly reimbursement for remote working expenses.
5. £81 caregiver reimbursement to support dependent care for families.
6. Private health insurance, including dental and vision.
7. Flexible working hours and meeting-free Wednesdays.
8. Regular 3-day Hackathons, bi-weekly learning groups, and productivity spending to support your career growth.
9. Opportunities to participate in digital events and conferences.
10. £81 per month to use toward qualifying wellness expenses.
11. Quarterly team offsites.
