Overview
As an Intelligence Technical Officer in the Environment Agency’s National Environmental Crime Unit, you will build confidence and capability across area teams in intelligence‑led ways of working and the use of intelligence systems, to build a greater understanding of the Threat, Risk and Harm and drive a better approach to tackling environmental offending and protect officer safety. This is a new role within the Intelligence and Partnerships team. You will support area teams by providing Memex training and promote the use and benefits of Memex and improve the quality of intelligence submitted.
Responsibilities include providing face to face training to area staff on our Intelligence system, MEMEX; supporting and training area teams to submit intelligence and conduct searches; supervising intelligence logs to ensure high standard of quality in submissions; creating entities from Memex submissions; providing regular reports on performance and feedback on ways to improve performance; ensuring high standards of quality of intelligence submissions; and performing other duties commensurate with the role. The Intelligence Team manages and develops all criminal intelligence for the Environment Agency. We build and maintain strong relationships with partners to drive an intelligence‑led approach to tackling environmental crime across regimes. The team provides a professional and timely service and focuses on continuously improving how we operate to meet customers’ needs.
Experience/skills required
We are looking for self‑motivated and proactive applicants who can demonstrate the following:
* A good understanding of Intelligence and Intelligence systems
* An ability to advocate for an intelligence‑led approach and embed across teams
* Excellent influencing skills, ensuring Memex use is the norm and safety checks are mandatory
* Success in building strong, effective relationships

* Excellent communication skills with the ability to give feedback on ways to improve intelligence submission performance
* Strong self‑management and organisational skills
* Great teamwork to support colleagues in achieving common goals
Additional information
You will need to be comfortable working in a dispersed team. Location is flexible with a mix of home and office working; travel to Birmingham and other offices will be required on occasions. Interviews will be via Microsoft Teams and are expected to be in October.
