Children’s Occupational Therapist – 22.5 hours per week
Join BCP Council as a designated Children’s Occupational Therapist in a part‑time, 22.5 hour per week role. The position is based in the Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch Council areas and focuses on supporting children and young people with disabilities and complex health needs.
The pay range for this role is £42,839 - £49,282, pro rata for part‑time colleagues. New starters will begin at the bottom of the pay band with opportunities for progression.
Key responsibilities include:
* Complete robust holistic assessments focusing on a child’s function and occupational needs within their home environment.
* Assess, recommend and prescribe specialist equipment such as postural seating systems, bathing and toileting equipment.
* Support children and families through advice, risk assessments and facilitation of minor and major home adaptations, including progression through the Disabled Facilities Grant process.
* Complete moving and handling risk assessments and create bespoke care plans for children with complex physical disabilities.
* Collaborate with health, education and social care colleagues, contributing to EHCP plans where necessary.
* Promote independence and reduce risks associated with the care of children with disabilities.
* Participate in staff training, share best practice, and supervise Occupational Therapy students as appropriate.
* Maintain accurate case records and documentation in line with HCPC guidance.
* Complete Continuing Professional Development in accordance with HCPC and RCOH guidance.
Required qualifications and experience:
* Registered with the HCPC as an Occupational Therapist.
* Significant experience working with children who have disabilities and complex health needs.
* Knowledge of home adaptations, Disabled Facilities Grant and relevant legislation.
* Strong safeguarding and child protection awareness.
* Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Additional requirements:
* Part‑time (22.5 hours per week) over three days to be agreed with the Team Manager.
* Valid driving licence and business use insurance (car driver).
