Job overview
The Category Manager will support senior procurement staff and deliver value for the Trusts through effective contract management, savings and market development.
* Support Senior Buyers and Buyers, ensuring projects are carried out effectively, responsibly and in line with policy.
* Manage and develop the PPS contracts work‑plan to drive category spend and ensure effective contract coverage, incorporating national and collaborative procurement priorities and appropriate sourcing strategies.
* Identify and deliver savings towards the Partner Trusts’ QIPP, CIP and CRES targets, recording savings regularly and accurately.
* Work and liaise with all PPS staff to ensure an effective programme for category contract coverage that supports benefit realisation for Partner Trusts.
* Stay abreast of technology improvements and developments within the category, and develop team members’ category market knowledge.
* Support PPS staff to apply agreed process management and procedures.
* Provide advice, expertise and support to stakeholders for category product selection, market testing and other related activities as appropriate.

Person specification
Experience
* Experience working within an acute or community procurement environment in the NHS, with knowledge of Soft FM, Hard FM and IT categories.
* Knowledge of acute hospital sector buying procedures and local buying processes, including use of IT systems.
* Understanding of EU rules relevant to the NHS context.
Education and qualifications
* Comprehensive understanding of the Procurement Act 2023 and other relevant UK public procurement legislation.
* CIPS Certified.
* Degree level qualification or equivalent professional experience.
