Overview
UCLH, in partnership with University College London, is a designated biomedical research centre with an on-site early phase cancer clinical trials unit. The UCLH Macmillan Cancer Centre opened in April 2012 and includes outpatient clinics, daycare treatment facilities and an expanding ambulatory chemotherapy service. The pharmacy cancer team provides a high‑quality and progressive pharmacy service to cancer patients, with chemotherapy production services delivered from a state‑of‑the‑art unit.
Role and responsibilities
This is an exciting opportunity for a pharmacy technician to join the Cancer Pharmacy team. The post holder will provide a ward‑based clinical pharmacy technician service to oncology and haematology patients, working closely with nurses to ensure medicines management is maintained to a high standard on the wards and delivering individualised medication counselling to patients. The post holder will work with the multidisciplinary team and have the opportunity to work across clinical settings including inpatient wards, daycare, outpatients, and ambulatory care. You will be organized, motivated, have excellent communication and people skills, and adapt quickly to new situations. The technical service is fundamental to supporting timely medicines reconciliation and patient discharges, while delivering a high‑quality service.
Qualifications and requirements
* Registration as a pharmacy technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) is essential.
* ACPT accreditation or willingness to work towards it.
* Previous experience of medicines management at ward level would be a significant advantage.
