The role
Make a meaningful difference at life’s most important moments, offer comfort, dignity, and compassion when it matters most. We are looking for a caring and dedicated Volunteer End-of-Life Doula to support patients and their families in their own homes. This is a deeply rewarding role for someone who is empathetic, reliable, and committed to offering emotional and practical support during a sensitive and important time. Time Commitments Minimum of 4 hours a week. Our services operate 7 days a week. Clinical Responsibilities Provide Doula support to patients in their homes within the St Gemma’s catchment area. Assess needs and agree an engagement plan. Work with the multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality care, provide updates on patients’ condition, and record all activity on SystmOne. Maintain standards of care, ensuring dignity, respect and integrity. Scope of Responsibilities Provide practical and emotional end-of-life support, including: Assisting with daily tasks (e.g. meals, household help). Encouraging social engagement. Supporting coordination with services. Supporting advance care planning where appropriate. Providing end-of-life information. Supporting decision-making. Listening without judgement. Supporting spiritual needs if requested. Supporting loved ones through grief. Administrative Responsibilities Complete all patient records on SystmOne. Comply with St Gemma’s policies, including consent, use of materials, and confidentiality of patient information. A DBS check will be required for this post.
