Join our dedicated team as an Inpatient Care Nurse
We have an exciting opportunity within our nursing team at Pride Veterinary Referrals, for an Inpatient Care Nurse to join us on a part-time, fixed-term contract due to end in February 2025. Our successful candidate will be a Registered Veterinary Nurse with experience and knowledge of working in within a hospital environment.
You will work within the ICU ward department, providing care to both referral and first opinion cases. You will see a varied caseload and will gain experience nursing a wide range of patients and disorders. You will have excellent communications skills and be passionate about your own development and supporting your team and our student nurses. The department is fast paced, so you should be able to prioritise efficiently to ensure our patients receive the best care.
Day to day, your duties will involve handovers/ rounds, monitoring patients, administering medications, nursing care, blood transfusions, drain management, central line management, feeding tube management and urinary catheters. The cases include BOAS, Septic abdomens, Respiratory cases, Cardiac patients, critical post operative cases, anaemic patients. We fully encourage you to utilise your clinical skills fully and to learn new skills within our well supported environment.
The team you’ll be joining
The team consists of 11 RVNs, 7 VCAs and rotating nurses and SVNs who rotate around the hospital. The hospital also has 5 theatres, an imaging suite with access to advanced imaging such as digital x-ray, ultrasound, CT and MRI. There is also and endoscopy suite and Fluoroscopy facilities. Our wards department is made up of 8 wards (Including a small dog ward, 2 large dog wards, day patient ward, ICU, Cat ward, Exotics and a separate Isolation ward). Despite working within such a large team, we pride ourselves on maintaining a friendly and supportive culture with a focus on development, clinical excellence and gold standard patient care.
What will you bring to the team?
Due to the nature of the role, our successful application will be a qualified RVN with at least 2-year post qualification experience and extensive knowledge of working in an inpatient care setting. Experience working within an ICU setting would be advantageous. Further qualifications in ECC, medicine or management would be desirable but are not essential at this stage.
A working pattern that provides a work-life balance
The hours of work will be 31.5 per week, split over 3 days (Wednesday – Friday). There will be 1:6 weekend (1 day only). There is also an on-call rota (Approximately 1 night every 10 weeks), which is supplemented at an increased hourly rate if called out.
